Well it's nearly two months since my last blog post and to be honest I can't see me posting any more often than that.
I know I need to set up a new blog on a different website but I really dislike the idea of putting my work, especially work in progress, on the internet.
This is obviously something I need to think about and come up with a solution for because for some reason our blog is part of our assessment.

I'll update you when I've decided what to do!

Assessments

So it's assessment day tomorrow so it's time for another blog post!

Here are some of my photos for Photography. I decided to take portraits of the people who had helped me with my dyslexia project. My two favourite photos are the ones of Rebecca because shes so natural and easy to photograph without being a poser!

Right well as usual Blogger is being an a-hole so it's not letting me upload any pictures.
Sorry about that.

So it's progress review day and I just realised I don't have any of my digital work on show anywhere!
I don't like photoshop and I didn't enjoy using it but I can see how it's relevant and will be of help in the future.
That said here is some of the stuff I was working on in 'Multimedia'.

This is a wallpaper I made by repeating a pattern I made by layering hands and pelvises over each other.

The rest of my work doesn't appear to be in my student file. i thought I saved it there but it isn't there now. I'm hoping it's on my memory stick but I don't have time now to go and get it, so for now you're just going to have to take my word that it exists.

So we're six weeks in and this is my first blog post. Now that our blogs aren't compulsory I doubt I'll be updating this very often! Especially seeing as it's only my dad that actually reads it!!!
Right so.... spaces, structures and systems. Not the kind of thing I would be drawn to usually but of course I made it my own and turned it back into self portraits as I always do. It's funny how some people have found the thing they're going to make the main focus of their work and will manage to work all briefs around that theme rather than following a brief to the letter.

Well enough talk here is a couple of images of what I've been working on.

This first picture is of a lino-cut we were asked to make for the Limerick Printmakers Culture night. The theme was 'Limerick' so I went with two small traveller children on their ponies and a bit of Limerick slang.
These following 5 images are some collages I'm making for our SSS brief. I'm loving making them and as soon as my finger allows me too I'll be back to making them.

And lastly I have been knitting alot of very small hats this past week. In winter Innocent smoothie put bobble hats on their smoothies and then give 25c from each one sold to Age Action Ireland so I decided to join in and make a few hats to support the cause. So far I have 7 finished...I think... And I'll continue making those until the 25th of November so if you want to join in or have some ideas for a good hat - let me know!

'Pray For Me'

That's the title of my woodcut, and yes I did manage to get it finished, and even managed to cut a second colour! Very pleased with how it turned out, the only thing not right with it is the second colour isn't registered quite right because I forgot to leave a border around the edge to line it up. But hey I'll remember that the next time. And there will be a next time! Fiona Quill asked me and Kate the other day which type of print we had enjoyed the most so far or felt an affinity for, for me I think woodcut might be my 'thing'. Maybe it's too early to be saying that but I really enjoyed it and once I had borrowed the right tools (thanks Osh!) then it all seemed to just feel right or something. Maybe thats just my hangover talking. Anyway heres a picture of three different ways I printed the hands, black and gold, teal, red and peach and teal, gold and black. The red peach and teal are the colours from the dream that I had that inspired this woodcut but I think my favourite of the three is the black and gold.

Assessments are on Monday, so I'll be spending the weekend making sure I have all my sketchbooks in order and I might even go in to college tomorrow to hang my work! If I can find the bluetack that is.

Second woodcut

With only two days to go before our work has to be hung ready for assessment next week, I decided to do a second wood cut! It is 'slightly' larger than the last one, and I think it will only be printed in black as its not likely that I'll have the time to get the second side of the block cut, unfortunatly.
Here is how it looked last night at about 10pm.

It got another two hours work after that and I reckon it needs maybe another 3-5 hours.
